About PolkaWorks

The Austin-based nonprofit was born out of Lori Najvar’s extensive research into her own Texas Czech heritage and her interest in the cultural traditions around the state. She initially created the documentary “Czech Links”, which explored a family’s 50 year-old sausage-making tradition. From there she delved into the cultures of Moravia, Praha, Komensky, and many more. Then in 2008, she found a great opportunity in the unique, fascinating world of auctioneering. Two years later, Polkaworks has produced the successful traveling exhibit “Going Going Gone!” which has been showcased at the Texas State Capitol, Fayette county fair, the Texas Folklore Society and in March 2010-Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The latest story in the Texas Auctioneer Project is entitled “The Grove.” It is expected to be completed winter 2010.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Polkaworks depends on the donations of generous supporters. Please consider making a contribution to help Polkaworks preserve the heritage, traditions and culture of these precious communities.
